Research activities

My areas of interest cover the wide range of issues related to soil hydrology and environmental civil engineering. My research deals with unsaturated soils and geomaterials, considered as polyphase media in which the water, solutes, solid particles or gases movement involve several characteristic scales ranging from pore to pedological profile or civil engineering work scales. Experimentation and analytical/numerical simulation include multi-phase flow in soils, focusing on the role of heterogeneity upon fate and transport. Capillary barrier systems are included in field and laboratory experiments, including column and lysimeters to investigate transport, degradation and retention of chemicals, agrochemicals and nanoparticles as function of soil and hydric conditions. Infiltration measurements and modeling are at the core of field research, with interest on parameter estimation of soil hydraulic properties, study of preferential flow and nanoparticles transport processes in the unsaturated zone.
